I've posted this question once before over on 78ta.com but never got a direct answer from anyone. So, any tips, new or old, are greatly appreciated.

On the old RedBird, I have had an ongoing headlight malfunction crisis. I have went through blood, sweat, and tears trying to fix this thing. The headlights do NOT world AT ALL! I have changed the headlight switch itself, the dimmer switch, checked the wiring...etc. I do not know where the problem lies.

What really stumps me is that the rear lights as well as the parking lights are absolutely perfect. They all function as needed. I cannot get anything on high beam or low beam.

Like stated before, any opinions and/or help will be greatly appreciated!

have had the beams to all go out due to a power surge from a jump boost
also on a 76 firebird the ground from my lead on the front was not a good contact. not to be a smart *** you did check the fuse ? the head lights?

Have you put a circuit tester to the headlight plugs? If as you say the front parking lights work my guess is that the wiring from the split is bad.

Thanks guys for the answers...I really appreciate them!

Yes, I have checked both. There is no fuse for the headlights in the fuse block. The headlights are good as well.

I have cleaned the ground and still nothing. I am too starting to believe that the wiring is bad at the split. Anyone know about how much that runs to have it repaired? I just want to get it to where I can drive my bird at night time too.

well not knowing for sure what you want to accomplish (quick fix vs. restore) but if it's a quick fix you can just rewire from a switch in the cabin to get lights to drive at night or if your looking to restore go to the boneyard and see if you can fine a Firebird or T/A (not sure if a Camaro would work) to use. Heres something I found on E-Bay that might help. Keep us posted

This may or may not help but I'll tell you about a "wierd" situation I had. I replaced my engine harness and when I plugged everything back in, my drivers side turn signal would not work properly. I checked wiring, bulbs, etc. etc. Well, it turned out that when I plugged the firewall block back into the fuse box, one of the prongs bent and caused the issue.

Don't know if you have had that block off or not but this is something you might want to check, make sure your prongs on the harnesses are alright.

also try cleaning the prongs and sockets with a fine sandpaper to make sure of a good connection.

Do not remove the "grease", that stops corrosion from setting in with those prongs. As much as I like GK_STAR, I'm not sure I agree with putting sand paper to those prongs. If you remove that "grease" the prongs will be cleared for corrosion.

On a wiring harness that was working with NO problems I wouldn't do it....but if it reaches the point of your having to re-wire it anyways it's not going to hurt if it's going in the garbage anyways JMHO.

***As I said......is this a quick fix or a long term restore issue, it makes a difference  ***

Thanks for that link.

I don't really know what I want to do. I am restoring the car right now...but am currently looking for a quick fix so that I can drive the car whenever I want. But, I guess if I'm going to do it, I want to do it the right way. That means replacing everything I suppose.

I'll definitely keep you guys updated! I'm going to try to fix it this weekend.

I can feel another headache coming on

Ok, I'll take the advice. What exactly do I need to do for a quick fix? I'm tired of driving around and having to worry about the lighting outside.

Do I just connect a new wire from the fuse box to the switch itself or what? If so, what do I run it off of?

This really helps! Thanks for the suggestion!

Great, so what did you end up doing to fix it? I've always hated dealing with electrical problems, whether it's on a car...in the house or on a trailer.
