Well, after wondering what was going on with Kevin yesterday and his plans on picking up the '68 Firebird shell he's been so excited about, he finally made it home about 11:00 last night - with no 'bird. This is a car that has been sitting around at an old farm next to a ditch for years. A friend of Kevin's lives there. He bought the 307 from Kevin's '85 Cutlass and was giving him the car as part of the deal. The owner of the property told them that the car was there when he bought the place and that there's no title, but Kevin could take it with no problem. The whole thing was supposed to be set.
So Kevin waited all day for his g/f's brother to come back to town so they could use his truck and trailer. Then they started loading the car up when all of a sudden this huge (both Kevin and Courtnie say close to 7') biker lookin' neighbor comes running over accusing them of tresspassing and stealing his car. I guess he scared them all pretty bad. And then the cops showed up (I guess the neighbor called them before coming out which sounds like it was more in Kevin's and his friend's best interest then the neighbor's own). Kevin explained everything to them and they understood what was going on so, while they had to go to the local PD and fill out a report, they weren't arrested. He wasn't able to get ahold of his friend though.
Not sure what is going to come of this now. But to add to it, Kevin borrowed a couple of my good wheels that I need for my Blazer to get the car rolling. He already had them on it when everything blew up and was not allowed to remove them. So now I have to come up with new wheels. Like I can afford that on top of everything else.
Hopefully Kevin will see his friend today and find out what's going on. Not sure what will come of the car or anything. It's a shame if it just sits there and rots or ends up being scrapped like sooo many cars I've seen hauled to the scrap yards lately. I saw a few 2nd gen cars last weekend piled on trailers along with a really nice A-body Cutlass.

That's a total shame. Tell him to keep his head up! Hopefully everything will come out right in the end.

Maybe Kevin's friend can change the wheels back, so he can have the blazer wheels back. I'd ask, you never know your luck.

Keep us posted. If that 7' guy has the rights to that car and does nothing with it, we all need to set a day and time to meet to kick his a@@.

If he has the rights to the car how come it is in his neighbours yard.
I'd be charging a heap for storage.

you cant just go take someones stuff
im sure the guy would give the wheels bac-( he would have to)- by law there not his
what if it was your 68 bird-id be pissed!-lol
(some hay shaker) makes a bogus deal , sounds shady- we cant get mad at the guy for keepin his own stuff you know-
no title would make someone suspicious as it is!
CANT TRUST ANYONE THESE DAYS!

With all the cars around sitting in fields with lost titles that really isn't anything to be suspicious about now-a-days. If someone comes up to you and says they have a car you can have on property they also say is their's how far would you go to verify that? Would you actually go down to the county records building and look up all that to make sure they weren't lying? Hire a surveyor? I'm not blaming him for getting mad, just for the extreme over-reaction. Even the cops were on Kevin's side in that case. I learned later that the guy got beligerant with the police when he learned that there were no charges and they told him to take a hike.
I did get the wheels back finally last Friday. The kid who brokered the deal got them back. I wasn't real thrilled when I found out he just left the car sitting on the ground and told him to get back out there and put the old wheels back on it so it was the way they found it.
So everything is good now. And it looks like Kevin has found a couple other cars to look at. A mid '60s Impala or one I'd like to get ahold of - a '72 Camaro. And these two he's sure of who owns them.

"there is no authoritative right" to claim a mans stuff,
just because it there doing nothing
a abandonment - would be different

| I understand that. but if the neighbor says it's his land and his car how far should we have had to go to verify it? How is someone supposed to know if they are being lied to? Was Kevin supposed to hire a surveyor to find out if the guy was telling the truth?

its technical issues you know- he said she said-
thats why its so important to have titles- or bills of sales
or the guy could just be scamming kevin - as well- it comes to a legal "prove it " ordeal-
property or not- is there a storage- fee owed, or a verbal agreement-or is it right on the line of his property-ect...
"it was on your property"- well sorry- now you stole it just because it was 2 feet over too far
its always right and best to find the proper owners ,and go from there
sounds like it was a lesson - or something to the guy kevin was dealing with over the motor or something
i duno
you know what i mean though- it was 2 feet over the line so its automatically mine thing?
sounds like a bad deal all around - atleast everything is kool-

Yeah, but it wasn't over any line. The guy that gave Kevin the supposed permission just flat out lied. It wasn't his car. It wasn't his property. Even the cops said Kevin was fine in what he was doing based on the information he had. That's why they didn't file any charges.
The only lesson learned here is to just expect what anyone tells you to be a lie.

yea-thats kinda what i was gettin to- the he said stuff- the guy lied, and could have caused a lot of problems
it would have sucked to have built the car then the guy come up with the title,and said thanks for all the work
